						<title>AABB: Division Director, Cellular Therapies</title>

						<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Location: Bethesda, MD</strong><br /><strong>URL</strong>:http://www.aab.org</p><p>  	AABB is seeking a physician to lead our expanding Cellular Therapies Division. The position reports directly to the CEO and will be responsible for the implementation of the organization&rsquo;s strategic plan as it relates to cellular therapy. AABB offers a multidisciplinary approach to cellular therapy products and services based on core values of patient and donor safety and quality outcomes. These services include standard setting, accreditation, educational programs, resources for professionals, and a portfolio of member benefits.</p>  <p>  	Ideal candidates will possess a medical degree and current US medical license. Clinical experience in a hematopoietic stem cell transplant program or other clinical experience with cellular therapy is required as well as familiarity with non hematopoietic cells and cell based therapies. This position will serve as the primary liaison to other clinicians and health care professionals in the cellular therapy field including HSCT and other specialties using cell based therapeutic applications. The CT division director will serve as a staff resource for medical issues and lead a strong team of professionals as the organization expands its reach as the leading cellular therapy organization.</p>  <p>  	Education and Experience: Medical degree required. Current U.S. medical license preferred. This position requires public speaking at professional meetings, directly to physician colleagues, and some international travel. Knowledge of and experience with current practices and regulations of cellular therapy products indicate stronger candidates. Previous administrative experience in a leadership role and understanding of quality systems is desired.</p>  <p>  	<strong>Position Summary</strong>: The Cellular Therapies Division Director applies clinical experience and expertise in the direction, administration and participation of activities for the cellular therapies division programs and functions in accordance with association strategic objectives, policies, and goals established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors.</p>  <p>  	I. Major Responsibilities:</p>  <ul>  	<li>  		Provide leadership and direction to CT division team. Develop and execute strategies, policies and performance objectives, initiatives and measures for cellular therapy division.</li>  	<li>  		Serve as a strong leader and public spokesperson for the AABB Cellular Therapy program. Attends various meetings internally and externally to relay information and provide reports on division activities (i.e. Board of Directors Meetings, committee meetings). Recommends and formulates Association policy related to cellular therapies to CEO in response to internal and external situations/activities.</li>  	<li>  		Monitor division activities against established performance objectives and report performance to CEO and Board of Directors.</li>  	<li>  		Monitor cellular therapies environment for new opportunities and improvement to strategic direction, projects or activities. Identify and develop partnerships and business relationships to support the division&rsquo;s initiatives and objectives. Participate in the strategic planning, policy development and performance monitoring of AABB programs as a member of the senior management team.</li>  	<li>  		Directs the preparation of short and long term plans and budgets based on Association goals and objectives. &bull; Leverage AABB business model, products and services to design and ensure they meet the CT market needs.</li>  	<li>  		Collaborate with other AABB divisions and departments to efficiently utilize AABB resources in pursuit of division objectives and/or in support of other AABB division objectives.</li>  	<li>  		Serves as a resource on cellular therapy clinical issues to staff and as a primary liaison to medical communities utilizing AABB programs and services (HSCT physicians, other physicians and clinical staff involved in cellular therapy and government or third party payers).</li>  </ul>  <p>  	II. Nature and Purpose of Contact with Others:</p>  <ul>  	<li>  		The position requires frequent contact with all levels of staff to provide expert medical advice on issues related to the areas of activity of the Division and to present, explain and report on policies, goals and objectives or execution and/or funding status of programs directed by the incumbent.</li>  	<li>  		Supports the CEO in discussions with the Board of Directors and in presentations before the Board and its various committees. Serves as the staff liaison to board committees and is responsible for the timely preparation of supporting materials in consultation with the CEO.</li>  </ul>  <p>  	III. Education &amp;Experience:</p>  <ul>  	<li>  		Education &ndash; Medical Degree required. Current U.S. medical license preferred.</li>  	<li>  		Experience &ndash; Minimum five years experience related to cellular therapy preferred. Clinical experience in a hematopoietic stem cell transplant program is preferred. Familiarity and experience with non-hematopoietic cells and cell based therapies. Administrative experience in a leadership role and understanding of quality systems is preferred. Working knowledge of and experience with current practices and regulations of cellular therapy products is required. Understanding of and familiarity with third party reimbursement processes and issues desired.</li>  </ul>  <p>  	IV. About the Department:    <P>
We are conducting a national search to identify an experienced leader to direct and manage the   Cellular Therapy Laboratory (with a new state of the art facility scheduled to open in October 2012) and   the administrative operational activities of the Apheresis Unit through the Cellular Therapy Services in a   complex and stimulating environment. This is a new position that will work with the newly appointed   Director of Cellular Therapeutics &amp; Clinical Laboratories. The Associate Director will be welcomed by   an energized peer team and have the opportunity to lead a strong stable staff of professionals who are   committed to quality.    <P>
The Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL) at SCCA is responsible for all minimally manipulated therapeutic   cell processing occurring at the SCCA. Procedures range from cryopreservation to more complex   procedures such as cell selection, enrichment, and depletion. The laboratory is regulated by the FDA,   cGTP/cGMP standards, maintains CAP certification, and is accredited by the Joint Commission and   the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).    <P>
The Apheresis Unit (APH) at the SCCA is responsible for the collection of mononuclear cells and   peripheral blood progenitor cells from pediatric and adult autologous transplant patients, related   allogeneic donors from the SCCA transplant program as well as from outside (non-SCCA) institutions.    <P>
Responsibilities:    <P>
The nature of this work is challenging and the position requires individual initiative and decision-making   capabilities to carry out the required tasks. The work requires mature judgment for the development of   appropriate techniques and in recognizing circumstances requiring special attention. Flexibility in   scheduling is required. Interaction with other departments and laboratories in the SCCA and Fred   Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) Clinical Research Division, Basic Sciences Division   and Shared Resources Facility is inherent to the position. The position requires excellent written and   verbal communication skills.    <P>
This position is responsible for the direction and management of the Cellular Therapy lab and the   administrative operational activities of APH through the Cellular Therapy Services (CTS) team. This   position is expected to collaborate with other SCCA Associate Directors and managers; it is also   responsible for ensuring new operational processes and procedures are developed and implemented   to fit operational requirements and business development.    <P>
The ideal candidate will have previous leadership, organizational, communication and personnel   management skills. Change management, project management and strategic planning experience   would be a plus in this position. This position requires the ability to collaborate and communicate   effectively by building a repoire with laboratory and quality system staff, health care professionals,   researchers and across departments in a clinical research setting and to foster and maintain these   relationships. This position also requires the capability to provide leadership on a global level within the   SCCA and our partner organizations as well as at the detail level in the daily management of operations   within the CTL.    <P>

A. Education  " Four-year college degree is required.  " Masters degree in biological science, epidemiology, public health or equivalent is highly desirable.  " MT (ASCP) credentials or equivalent is desired.    <P>

Experience  " The position requires 5 or more years of progressively responsible management experience in   healthcare, quality improvement strategies and activities for a healthcare organization.  " Equivalent experience in planning, developing and managing complex project portfolio is required.  " Experience in managing diverse disciplines in a technically regulated (FDA) environment.    <P>
C.
